Appreciation Post

Edition #200 of the weekend reading list will be slightly different. Instead of our regular list of articles, I want to thank some members of the community who were very important in my journey.

NYJAVASIG

Being part of the NYJavaSIG was one, if not the most important, event in my professional career. Because of the JUG, I came to know many interesting and intelligent people who are creating the software that I use, creating content such as blogs, videos, books, giving talks at conferences, and, most importantly, helping others.

This incredible group is composed of (in alphabetical order):

Barry Burd – Barry is a university professor, conference speaker, Java Champion, book writer, audio/media guru, leader of two JUGs, and a fantastic person. Some of his books are Java for Dummies, Ruby on Rails for Dummies, and Quantum Computing Algorithms.

Chandra Guntur – Chandra is a conference speaker, Java Champion, leader of two JUGs, creator of Spring Katas, a fantastic co-worker, and a great person. He opened the doors of NYJavaSIG to me. His Maven blog series is a big success, and his presentations always attract a big crowd.

Frank Greco – Frank is the creator of the NYJavaSIG, a conference speaker, and a Java Champion. Frank is super bright and, as an AI guru, is helping to bring AI to the Java developer. He can talk about every tech topic and consistently contributes to the conversation.

Jeanne Boyarsky – Jeanne is a Java Champion, a book writer, a leader of the NYJavaSIG, passionate about robotics, super smart, and one of the best speakers in the community. She pushed me to speak at conferences and helped me prepare at every step of the way. Her certification books are top sellers.

Neha Sardana – Neha is a great professional, conference speaker, and leader of two JUGs. She is an inspiration to many and is always trying to help.

Ray Tsang and Justin Lee – They are fantastic people. Very technical, very smart, and working on unique projects. They are Java Champions and brilliant conference speakers.

Outside of the JUG, there are some people that I have to mention. I came to know all of them because of my involvement with the NYJavaSIG. Again, in alphabetical order:

Don Raab – Don is a compulsive blog writer, and I say that in a good way. He is passionate about technology, Eclipse Collections, and helping others. He is a Java Champion and a conference speaker, and he gave me the idea to start with this blog.

Elder Moraes – Elder is a Java Champion, a fantastic conference speaker, and responsible for my first accepted talk at a conference. Thanks to Elder, I had the opportunity to present at one of the most prestigious conferences, Java One.

Hillmer Chona – Hilmer is a conference speaker, a Java Champion, and we have presented at many conferences. He is responsible for my Java Champion nomination.

Mary Grygleski – Mary is a Java Champion, a full-time conference speaker, leader of the Chicago JUG, and, along with Hillmer, supported my nomination.
